Just got back from viewing the spectacular New England fall foliage. Started at Martha’s Vineyard and worked our way to Montreal, Canada and back to Boston. My sister and brother-in-law did an awesome job with the itinerary. Took about 1700 digital photos but I will only bore you today with just a few.

You probably have guessed it. The business of finding new and interesting ideas for myself and my readers is taking a toll on me. Honestly, I just have not been excited or feel inspired by many of the things I have found lately. Thought that browsing through my travel photos might help and it did. It provided a temporary cure and a longing for another adventure.
In any case I hope you hang in there while I ponder this dilemma.

Whenever I visit a Shinto temple in Japan I always purchase prayer charms called Omamori. Usually they are made from silk crepe fabric decorated with kanji and traditional Japanese symbols. They have become fashionable accessories again but the designs are now more contemporary and colorful such as these manufactured by Felissimo, Japan.

On the way to Piazza Navona my eyes were drawn to these glass balls hanging across a narrow street. They belong to the bead shop, La Perla D’Oriente. The small shop carries not only these fabulous glass balls but also carries a collection of glass beads from Syria, China, India, the Czech Republic and Italy as well.

The dollar was at its lowest during my Italian sojourn that window shopping was the only spending I could manage. Of course, in Italy you cannot ignore the great ceramics that abound.
The Campo de Fiori designs shown above are from the Modigliani shop in Rome and are available in the U.S. Their website includes three videos that illustrates how some pieces are turned and painted, a very rare hands-on process.

There is a chain of 21 missions in California, Mission San Carlos Borromeo in Carmel Valley has to be one of my favorite. I love all the Spanish detailing of the buildings and the native plants in the gardens. When you visit California do try to visit one of our missions.
