“Layers of memories can become symbols of the environment in which they belong. In this way they rise above their original functionality to achieve a talismanic status. These objects are far more likely to be humble, functional items than the decorative ones placed out of harm's way on the mantelpiece or shelf.
It is for these reasons that I make functional ceramics, as opposed to purely decorative items. I would like to think that some of my work might achieve this symbolic status in another family's life by becoming a well-used and familiar part of their domestic scenery.”
The ceramic artist responsible for this beautiful work is Katrin Moye. I have included quotes from one her profiles and samplings of her ceramic work as well as her watercolor renderings transformed into greeting cards. Find out more about her on her blog here.
